Evie Ring – for women only – provides health, menstrual cycle, sleep and activity tracking

By
Movano Health showcased the Evie Ring at CES 2023
Tracks women’s data across health, menstrual cycle, sleep and activity
Smart ring connects to app which provides actionable insights for better health and disease prevention
While Oura leads the smart ring market for health and fitness, the Evie Ring will bring competition targeting the female demographic

Movano Health showcased the Evie Ring, which is designed solely for women, at CES 2023 last week, ahead of launching into the consumer market this year.

The wearable tracks women’s personal data across four areas: health (including heart rate, heart rate variability, skin temperature, respiration rate and SpO₂ – amount of oxygen in the blood); menstrual cycle (symptom tracking, period onset and ovulation windows); sleep quality (paired with pattern identification to improve sleep health); and activity (including continuous monitoring of all movement and metabolic and active calories burned).

The data is transferred to a partnering app where users can digest the results to better understand cause and effect and make smarter choices about their lifestyle and related activities and actions. A mood-tracking feature will further help users to adjust daily habits and the insights will also help women take preventative measures against the onset of chronic diseases. Recovery is deemed to be as important as activity and emphasis is placed on both mental and physical health.

The company will be seeking FDA clearance for Evie as it has been designed to meet ISO13485 and cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practice) regulations enforced by the FDA.

“As a medical device, Evie will go beyond the status quo of other wearables on the market, and we believe it has the power to transform women's lives and overall health," said Dr John Mastrototaro, CEO of Movano Health. “We are bringing together medical-grade biometric data and insights in a comfortable and contemporary wearable that allows women to take ownership of their unique health journey."

While there is no timeline given for the FDA clearance process, Movano has said that the smart ring will become available to the public in 2023. Made of polished aluminum in three colours (gold, silver and rose gold), it will be priced at US$300 with no monthly subscription fees – another feature that will help it to stand out from the smart ring crowd.

Oura is currently leading the smart ring race for health and fitness insights, but female-focused Evie will provide competition for the female market.

In other news, Circular – which launched at CES 2022 – is battling two patent infringement lawsuits from Oura and Tinder founder, Sean Rad, is releasing an AI-enabled, stress-sensing Happy Ring into the market later this year.
