Uniigym aiming to revolutionise virtual fitness apps with AI and somatosensory ID tech

By

The team behind a new digital service which allows users to transform any space into a workout area, say it has been designed to change the way virtual fitness is delivered to consumers.

Uniigym – described as a 'cloud and AI-based, interactive fitness and gaming mass volume content platform' – uses AI technology to create fitness content with green screen and graphics.

The system can also be used to detect motion, allowing the content to "self-generate" music and special effects.

According to Uniigym, AI makes creating content 8-10 times faster than professional fitness video editors.

The Taiwan-based firm – which was founded by entrepreneurs Jye Lin and Philia Wang – is now looking to utilise the tech to gain market share in the lucrative digital fitness space. It is also launching – and developing – new products, such as Uniihome and Uniicube.

"Uniigym is here to revolutionise the virtual fitness experience," founders, Lin and Wang, said.

"The Uniihome version connects through normal broadband telecom services to SmartTVs, laptops, and mobile phones with no additional hardware or software upgrades needed.

"Users can transform their living room into a workout space with access to fitness courses curated by 'world-renowned' fitness trainers," said Wang.

"AI-generated sound and lighting effects accompany users through various types of workouts, including street dance, cardio, yoga, and tai chi, satisfying a wide array of fitness interests and goals while engaging users in fun and highly interactive workout sessions.

"In addition, the Uniicube is capable of transforming any space with walls into a 'Uniigym Virtual Environment' with just a projector."

Lin and Wang say the deployment of somatosensory identification technology is what sets the system apart.

"This innovation targets the user's bone and joint points, uses cloud algorithms to compare user movements with those of the trainers, identifies and corrects the user's posture by posting excellent, good, fair and miss ratings on screen," they explain.

"Users are able to identify their incorrect movements and improve throughout the course.

"Uniigym also uses personal devices to record and save data on the user's heart rate and calorie count to their designated personal account.

"We hope our innovative technology not only works as a fitness and wellbeing tool, but also as a way to connect family and friends together in fun and interactive fitness sessions."

Uniigym is collaborating with Taiwan Normal University and was recently selected to be a part of the 4th intake to the Hype Spin Accelerator in Taiwan, as well as being chosen as one of 100 featured Taiwanese startups to be showcased at CES 2021.
