A yoga app has been launched aimed at those who are living with chronic pain, to support them to exercise in a gentle and effective way.
Founded by yoga teacher and “chronic pain warrior” Sophia Drozd, the Y4P app offers more than 200 short, manageable practices which yield positive effects without over exertion. There is a focus on slow-paced, nourishing movements, restorative sessions and breathwork.
There are options for individuals who have pain in a certain area; slow flow workouts, including bed yoga and chair yoga and yogility – a mix of yoga and mobility exercises to enhance range of motion and strengthen joints. Further to this, there are breathwork and meditation classes.
The Y4P Community Channel is a moderated, supportive space to allows users to connect with others who understand the unique challenges of living with chronic pain.
Sophia Drozd says: “The sessions are structured to be mindful of the body’s changing needs, encouraging users to honour how they feel each day. The Minimum Effective Dose approach will allow users to benefit from yoga without pushing themselves beyond what feels manageable, offering a truly sustainable form of pain relief.
“Yoga’s potential to manage chronic pain is now receiving attention in healthcare circles. Through gentle movement, breathwork, and mindfulness practices, yoga can help chronic pain sufferers by promoting relaxation, reducing stress, and increasing body awareness. Unlike other exercises, yoga can be adapted for those with limited mobility, which makes it particularly beneficial for individuals with chronic pain.”
NHS Consultant and pain expert, Dr. Deepak Ravindran, has endorsed the app and it is certified by ORCHA (the Organisation for the Review of Care and Health Apps). The subscription costs £7.99 a month.
