Fitness equipment giant Life Fitness has signed a deal to make Samsung Galaxy Watch devices compatible with a full line of premium Life Fitness cardio equipment.
The deal means that Galaxy Watch users (Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active2) will be able to track their workout metrics via connectivity to Life Fitness' Discover SE3 HD console.
The smartwatch integration will track workout data on a wide variety of compatible cardio equipment, including Life Fitness treadmills, ellipticals, arc trainers, PowerMill climbers, and recumbent and upright bikes.
Exercisers can tap their Galaxy Watch on the console of a compatible machine to sync their device. Once connected, the watch sends real-time heart rate data to the machine.
After completing a workout, users receive a detailed workout summary on their watch capturing duration, heart rate and calories burned.
“Wearable technology, including fitness trackers and smartwatches, continues to be a top trend among exercisers around the world," said Anthony Radek, Life Fitness' product director for consoles and software.
"By partnering with Samsung, we are providing better results to exercisers by integrating their workouts with the technology they use every day."
Radek added that the deal was part of the company's strategy to invest in digital partnerships that create new and personalised experiences for its customers on its "truly open API platform".
