case study: Third Space
In 2020, during lockdown, Third Space launched a new app giving its members exclusive access to a wide variety of on-demand and live streamed classes. The move was the result of a two-year partnership with Fisikal to enhance member experience through its digital provision.

“In the first six months, we have recorded 65,000 views of our on-demand programme, with a further 10,000 views of our live streamed classes.” Explains Richard Carroll, Senior Brand Manager at Third Space.

“A digital provision was in the planning long before Covid-19 but it fast tracked the app launch, providing our community with a means of connection to our services despite physical restrictions. Fisikal was able to respond to our new timeline and worked tirelessly to get the app up and running.”

Third Space commissioned Fisikal to develop a fully branded app back in 2018, recognising a growing consumer demand for anytime, anywhere access to fitness services. In addition to class content and bookings, the app enables the scheduling and payment of personal training sessions, with access to more than 350 exercise demonstrations and 100 workouts.

Richard continues: “Digitalising our bookings has not only enhanced the member experience, it also provided better user flow analytics, giving clarity on member behaviours enabling us to make informed programming and operational adjustments.

“In our next phase, we intend to refresh the front-end design and work with Fisikal to create an in-app, two-way communications channel to provide our members with an intuitive, single access point for all information, coaching and training support, available anytime, anywhere. We will continue to invest in our digital provision, viewing it as a vital complementary service to our in-club provision.”

case study: Frame
When facing lockdown restrictions, FRAME adapted its in-club experience to an online offering. This included integrating with Fisikal, experts in digital business solutions, to ensure a seamless digitalisation of the business and a website for studio, on-demand and live-stream classes.

FRAME co-founder, Pip Black, explains: “We had been considering online workouts but lockdown made us leap to digitalisation quickly. Having launched Frame 11 years ago, our technology was a ‘filo pastry’ of multiple layers and needed to be simplified and restructured. This is where Fisikal came in.”

“Thanks to Fisikal, we can now house our studio, on-demand and live-stream class schedules all in one place. We have streamlined our payments and bookings through Fisikal’s one solution, which has already provided significant savings, both in software and professional fees.”

This project also involved Fisikal developing bespoke functionalities for FRAME including: dynamic pricing of the ‘Frame Card’, a pre-paid top-up option via the member portal; the interactive option for Framers to tag classes by moods and a waterfall filtration system so members could find classes based on FRAME filters.

“Fisikal has helped future-proof our business.” FRAME co-founder, Joan Murphy, adds. “We have had so much feedback to say how our digital classes got members through some really dark days of lockdown. Digital options allow us to reach more people, in the UK and globally, and will be an important part of our brand moving forwards.”

Rob Lander, Fisikal CEO comments: “The FRAME team can now engage not only current, studio members but also Framers internationally. And the great thing is, we can always add more exciting functionality in the future as their digital offering, and the needs of their members, evolve.”

Everyone Active trials Fisikal's digital PT management app
In a move to create a more experience driven, efficient process that links members to personal trainers, Everyone Active is trialing Fisikal’s custom-built digital PT management app. The move is all part of the leisure operator’s drive to continually challenge the member experience, seeking out new ways to optimise support and achievement of their individual health and wellbeing goals.

The app went live at 6 Everyone Active managed sites this month, including Blandford Leisure Centre, Fakenham Sports Centre, Fareham Leisure Centre, Northolt Leisure Centre, Stratford Leisure Centre and Wigston Pool and Fitness. If the trial is successful, the digital solution will be rolled out across the entire Everyone Active leisure portfolio.

“Fisikal’s new app delivers a more convenient, effective experience for our members, and, it gives us better commercial visibility of how this part of our business is performing,” says Ben Beevers, Everyone Active’s Group Development Director.

“The digital enhancement to a system where all bookings and payments are processed through an app gives us real time insight of how the service is performing at an individual, site and enterprise level. Having a better grasp of this will enable us to make more informed decisions about pricing, engagement triggers and pathways – ultimately adapting the service for the benefit of both members and trainers.

“Our personal trainers are hugely valued, therefore, we aim to provide an environment where they can thrive. Through digitalising the personal trainer management system, we can help our trainers build a financially sustainable career, by making it as easy as possible for members to engage in their services.”

Fisikal began work on the custom build in late December. Eight weeks later the app was rolled out to personal trainers in multiple sites.

“This has been a great project to work on” says Fisikal’s CEO, Rob Lander, “Digitalising Personal training and moving to a more centralised model will give Everyone Active more opportunity to understand and develop this part of the business. We are really excited to watch this trial play out and, hopefully, to extending the provision to the rest of the Everyone Active estate.”

Fitness First UK wins big by switching up its digital personal training (PT) offer with Fisikal
In a bid to better connect members to trainers and vice versa, Fitness First UK has integrated Fisikal’s world class personal training functionality into its digital ecosystem.

Here, Keith Shaw, Head of Personal Training, Fitness First UK explains how the experience played out for members, trainers and the business.

"I am pleased to say, the integration of Fisikal functionality was as pain-free as any switch could possibly be, thanks to the high level of support provide by Fisikal throughout.

"Our ambition is to engage 20 per cent of our membership in personal training. Digital bookings through our member app is central to our strategy. Recently, through targeted promotion administered through the app, over a 14-day period, we secured 1,600 personal trainer bookings by members who had previously never engaged with personal training. Being able to facilitate this kind of activity at the push of a few buttons will be instrumental in the growth of our personal training engagement moving forwards.

"Fisikal supported us through the entire process. Most of the technical integration was completed via a mix of remote and on-site works by Fisikal in liaison with our in-house technical team. When it came to the upload of information, setting filters and permissions, and building performance dashboard, Fisikal provided support via a mix of online ‘how to videos’ and visual PDFs to direct online and telephone support.

"The level of support by Fisikal was, and continues to be, extraordinary. Help is always on-hand. This reassurance has made the entire process manageable and has meant we will not shy away from upgrades and system improvements managed by Fisikal in the future.

"So, what are the big wins? As a business, the digitalisation of the booking system enables us to better understand and influence our members’ connection with our trainers. Secondly, it helps our trainers build a client base through better communication and promotion of their services direct to members. And, finally, it enhances the experience for our members and keep them training with us."

EGYM announces integration with software provider Fisikal
EGYM has announced an integration with a leading UK-based software company Fisikal to enhance its capabilities to serve the needs of enterprise customers running multi-site operations.

Fisikal is an enterprise solution, providing operators total visibility and control over their entire business. Business performance can be monitored in real-time at a club, cluster, or enterprise level.

Fisikal employs a fully open API, actively welcoming connections with other digital solutions providers. Its open approach has enabled the creation of highly flexible modular, digital ecosystems that cater to the needs of each operator.

Immediate benefits of this new partnership for EGYM’s enterprise clients will include advanced group exercise bookings with feature sets not presently available in most member management systems, personal training booking and payment support directly via the EGYM branded member app.

“EGYM believes gym operators should choose the best technology solution for each specific need and rely less on tech suppliers that are trying to solve all problems simultaneously,” says John Ford, chief product officer of EGYM.

“Fisikal’s intense focus on personal training and GX booking solutions has enabled it to deliver the industry’s best booking product. EGYM’s new integration with Fisikal will deliver a seamless native booking experience directly inside the EGYM branded member app, demonstrating that operators no longer need to sacrifice a highly integrated experience to select best-of-breed technology solutions like EGYM and Fisikal.”

Rob Lander, CEO of Fisikal, adds: "EGYM has one of the most successful branded member app platforms on the market. We’re thrilled that it’s embedding Fisikal’s advanced group exercise and personal training feature sets within its existing native member apps.

“We look forward to working closely with EGYM and delivering our deeply integrated solution to its enterprise customers all over the world."

The newly minted partnership will initially focus on the immediate needs of the enterprise customer base of EGYM.

Future projects are already in the planning, with additional announcements to be made throughout 2022.

ACTIV partners with Fisikal to deliver custom branded member experience
ACTIV, a gym chain in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which operates separate gyms for men and women, has partnered with digital management solution expert Fisikal to create a custom branded experience for its members.

When partnering on this project, ACTIV was particularly interested in Fisikal’s digital solutions for membership management, payment management, group exercise and PT bookings, as well as the option to launch live streaming and on-demand workouts in the future.

John Greenwood, CEO of Ezdihar Sports, says: “We approached Fisikal – which we’d worked with before – at a very late stage in the creation of our ACTIV gym brand.

“We knew this project would require an element of custom development, and that Fisikal was our preferred partner, but we knew the short time frame would present a challenge for any provider.

“We needn’t have worried. Fisikal has completely surpassed our expectations and the rapid completion of the project, under such tight time restraints, has been incredible.

“In addition to the membership system, Fisikal also managed to have the member app ready for the opening of the first two gyms which totally exceeded our expectations.”

This project included a number of custom developments which had to be built into the project as bespoke functionalities.

Culturally, Fisikal had to consider the Arabic translation and navigation of the member app, plus the gender separation elements that were required. In order to do this, Fisikal built the system to ensure there was no overlap between the male and female members when booking.

The team was also able to create bespoke, specific reporting requirements so that men and women are displayed on the dashboards as two separate clubs.

In addition, ACTIV needed to be able to use their local payment cards (Mada) through the Fisikal booking systems and comply with recent tax changes and specialised invoicing to meet Saudi legal requirements. In the future, Fisikal will also be tasked to integrate with their local access control partner.

Emma Excell, COO at Fisikal, adds: “It’s been a fantastic experience working with ACTIV to elevate its member experience to the next level. We were excited by the custom developments required to meet cultural needs – these have now strengthened the advanced functionalities of our digital ecosystem.

“The actual turnaround on design, custom brand and build of the app was completed in just five days. Our partnership with ACTIV is now live, initially across three sites, but with many more planned moving forwards.”

Luxe Fitness partners with Fisikal to drive digital member journey
Luxe Fitness, a Bristol-based gym offering premium service at a budget price has partnered with Fisikal – an expert in digital business management solutions – to enhance its member experience and digital journey.

Looking to provide a high-end digital provision, Luxe Fitness needed a digital partner that provided a complete digital management solution that would seamlessly manage bookings, access control and offer a white-labelled member app to keep members connected, in or outside of the four walls of the physical club.

“Our previous digital partner was struggling to meet our requirements, we were unable to engage with members the way we wanted and this impacted our ability to sustain or grow our revenue,” Allyn Condon, Luxe Fitness general manager explains.

“Fisikal understood our needs and reacted quickly to get us set up with a comprehensive digital system that managed our operations efficiently at just the touch of a button.”

As a 24/7 club, Luxe Fitness needed better access control, ideally a touchless solution to provide the safest entry method for members travelling into, and around the club.

Fisikal has enabled club entry via the presentation of a QR code, RFID chip or by newly introduced advanced facial recognition.

“While we previously had a booking system for classes, Fisikal has helped us improve this experience by making it more user-friendly, with clear actions and personalised notifications to provide members with a more customised experience,” Condon adds.

“We’ve been able to expand our digital booking system to cover PT bookings which has instantly given our trainers a more effective tool to connect with clients and the club the opportunity to improve on incremental spend.”

In addition to customer service, integrating with Fisikal on the development of a member app has opened up secondary spend opportunities for Luxe Fitness as they look to introduce an e-commerce shop, branded products on-demand class content.

Surge integrates Fisikal with HubSpot to drive business efficiencies and grow revenue
As Surge expands its offer with the launch of a third dedicated Electronic Muscle Stimulation (EMS) studio this summer – this time in Fleet Street, London – the brand reflects on the vital role of its estate wide digital ecosystem, created in partnership with Fisikal, designed to drive business efficiencies and commercial success.

“Until recently our e-marketing software did not talk to our digital business management system,” explains James Nuttall, finance director.

“This was an inefficient and ineffective administrative nightmare. In order to tailor marketing to our various audiences depending on where they were on their Surge journey– e.g. prospect, member or former member – we needed to manually download selected data from Fisikal and transport it into the e-marketing platform.

“This was time-consuming and open to error.

“Over the course of the last few months, while the business was unable to welcome users to experience our studios due to Covid induced lockdown restrictions, we set about creating a connected digital ecosystem that enables our various software providers to talk to each other, seamlessly sharing data in real time.

“As our incumbent ‘engine house’ or business management system, Fisikal needed to be absolutely central to the integration.

“I’m pleased to say, what we have created is working beautifully. We swapped out our standalone original e-marketing platform and replaced it with HubSpot which – using the Zapier platform as a ‘connector’ – is seamlessly integrated with Fisikal.

“Now, key events in our customer life-cycle are tracked and recorded providing real-time visibility as to where that individual is on their journey with us.

“Each time Fisikal records an interaction that moves a person along their journey, for example from prospect to paying member, the information is automatically updated in HubSpot, ensuing that our communication and targeted marketing to them remains relevant.

“The integration has transformed our business,” declares Nuttall.

“The team now has confidence that the data they’re using to target key audiences is current and accurate. They’re also saving hours and hours in time previously spent manually exporting and importing information.

“When we brought Fisikal onboard as our digital business management solution, we wanted a partner which would grow and evolve with the needs of our business. This is yet another example of how Fisikal is delivering against this need.

“The Fisikal platform offers a huge amount of functionality but is also accepting of the fact that integration with other software providers is critical to be able to meet all the needs of a business.

“We now have a beautifully connected ecosystem of software platforms all working together to deliver business efficiencies and drive revenues. Perfect timing as we start to bounce back from the impact of Covid-19.”

Fisikal first started working with Surge back in 2017.

Then Surge was just one site in London. Now the top end EMS brand has added two further studios with further growth ambitions over the coming years.

Rob Lander, CEO and Founder at Fisikal, adds: “Surge has always harboured ambitions to extend its reach via the provision of multi-sites both across London and beyond.

“As a result, we’ve developed a platform with a high degree of flexibility both in terms of its own functionality and its ability to integrate with other third-party providers.

“In today’s connected world, an ability to talk and interact with other software providers is an absolute must, offering clients limitless opportunities to drive business efficiencies and exemplary end-user experiences.”
